Forest Bathing.. Bengaluru’s Latest Wellness Trend Takes Root in Cubbon Park

Bengaluru, known for its lush green spaces, is embracing a new wellness trend that perfectly aligns with its ‘Garden City’ moniker. Forest bathing, a practice originating from Japan, is gaining popularity among health-conscious Bengalureans seeking respite from urban stress.

This weekend, a group of 20 participants gathered at Cubbon Park for a guided forest bathing session led by certified practitioner Priya Sharma. “Forest bathing isn’t about exercise or hiking,” Sharma explains. “It’s about immersing yourself in nature using all your senses.”

Participants spent two hours slowly wandering through the park, touching tree bark, listening to birdsong, and breathing in the fresh, oxygen-rich air. Many reported feeling calmer and more centered after the session.

“I’ve lived in Bengaluru for years but never experienced Cubbon Park like this,” says Rahul Mehta, a software engineer and first-time forest bather. “It’s amazing how just slowing down and really noticing nature can be so rejuvenating.”

The trend is catching on quickly, with several wellness centers and yoga studios now offering forest bathing sessions in various green spaces across the city, including Lalbagh Botanical Garden and Bannerghatta National Park.

Dr. Anjali Rao, a local psychologist, supports the practice. “In our fast-paced tech city, people are constantly looking at screens. Forest bathing offers a much-needed digital detox and has been shown to reduce stress hormones and blood pressure.”

As Bengaluru continues to grow as an IT hub, this back-to-nature wellness trend provides a perfect counterbalance, allowing residents to take full advantage of the city’s abundant green spaces.

For those interested in trying forest bathing, Cubbon Park hosts free sessions every Sunday morning. Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing and leave their phones behind to fully immerse themselves in the experience.
